The Vashara & Maridun

Vashara: The Nomadic Caravans of the Great Deserts

The Vashara are a hardy and resourceful people who traverse the vast deserts of Akesh. These nomadic tribes have learned to thrive in one of the most challenging environments on Kabourashi, where the scorching sun and shifting sands dictate their every move. The Vashara are not from any one of the seven great families of Akesh or those of the Shabaldeen, Ba’hivar of Gulka nations, but instead comprise members from all of them: Kesh, Gulka, Shab, and Ba'hivar. This diverse composition has fostered a unique culture that values adaptability, resilience, and cooperation.

The Vashara live in communities, moving their encampments with the shifting sands and the seasons, to find water, food, and trade opportunities. Their caravans are a familiar sight in the desert, they are master survivalists, skilled in finding hidden oases, navigating by the stars, and utilising every resource the desert provides.

The Vashara's social structure is egalitarian and fluid, with leaders chosen based on merit and necessity. Elders and experienced nomads hold significant influence, guiding their people through the ever-changing desert landscape, revering the desert as both a provider and a harsh teacher.

Maridun: Seafarers of the Seas and Shores

In contrast to the desert-dwelling Vashara, the Maridun are a seafaring people. They inhabit the coastal regions and travel the shallower seas, navigating the treacherous waters and exploring the coast of Akesh and Kabourashi. Like the Vashara, the Maridun are a mix of individuals from all the Akesh, unified by their common purpose and way of life.

The Maridun live in small coastal communities and on ships, constantly moving along the coast line of Akesh. Their lives are governed by the tides and the winds, with a deep respect for the ocean's power and bounty. The Maridun are expert sailors, fishermen, and traders, known for their ability to read the sea and weather patterns with remarkable accuracy.

Community and family are central to Maridun life, with strong bonds formed through shared voyages and mutual dependence. They have a rich oral tradition, passing down stories of legendary voyages, sea monsters, and the tale of the sea. Music and dance are integral to their culture, often performed during communal gatherings and celebrations.

Despite their different environments and lifestyles, the Vashara and the Maridun share a common ethos. Both groups live hard lives, yet they work tirelessly for the betterment of their caravans and the whole of Akesh. Their contributions to trade, culture, and knowledge are invaluable, bridging the diverse regions of their homeland. United by their resilience and adaptability, the Vashara and the Maridun exemplify the enduring spirit of the Akesh people.
